We suck, we suck, we suck, we suck, we suck…AAAHHHHHHHH!!!
Perhaps it was a touch fitting that St Kilda and Collingwood opened proceedings for The Great Letdown last night. The Pies were one kick away from a grand final last year but have not looked as impressive so far this season. The Saints have held high expectations for a number of years now but the results have not lived up to them. So one set of supporters were bound to be left heavily deflated after this game.
And that award goes to the Saints fans. Sure, they threatened to take the lead after falling behind in the third quarter but again could not convert numerous goal opportunities. With Riewoldt out and Fraser Gehrig playing like he should have stayed retired, they seem to be relying on Stephen Milne kicking you seven goals every week in order to win. That can’t be good…
Maybe those panic merchants who hit the roof when St Kilda lost their first game for the year in round three were spot on. But well done to Collingwood who leap over St Kilda on the ladder, though only by percentage. And what a great way to celebrate a significant milestone for…some dude who plays for them.

200 games. CONGRATULATIONS…um…YOU!
…
Here is the rundown for the remaining games of The Great Letdown:
SATURDAY

No, the Port boys are my old mates… they won’t trash-talk me!
Aurora Stadium, Launceston - 2:10pm (local): Hawthorn v Port Adelaide (FOX)
- Buddy Franklin wants to play for just one team…and he wants to be a Hawk for life!
- And that means we will all get a lifetime of ‘Buddy Franklin kicks kinda funny‘ articles.
- So how can Port topple the undefeated Hawks? Um…stop Franklin? No. Stop everybody else? Correct!
- Stuart Dew to cop an almighty sledging from his former teammates…expect to hear every single fat joke in the book!
…

Scarlett better than Silvagni? Could Scarlett land a babe like this? Well, there’s your answer…
MCG, Melbourne - 2:10pm (local): Richmond v Geelong (TEN)
- The Tigers have something unseen at Punt Road for many years…no, not Kevin Bartlett – it’s competition for places in the firsts! But will Mark Coughlan ever stop breaking himself and force his way back in?
- Nathan Foley…from rookie list to big V! How will he go against Geelong’s embarrassment of midfield riches?
- Gary Ablett is back for the Cats…and his lil’ bro might decide that footy is ok again too!
- But Brad Ottens could be out for a little longer and Matthew Egan will be out for a lot, lot longer!
- Matty Scarlett must be at the peak of his powers – and he has used that power to convince Glenn Archer that he is a better fullback than Stephen Silvagni!
…

And they will know that they’ve been playing, against the famous Carlton Crew…
- The Blues scored a big win in Perth two weeks ago but they haven’t beaten the Lions in their last seven attempts…
- If they can’t stop Brown and Bradshaw then you could probably make that eight attempts!
- Thanks to Underbelly, any reference to a group of players at the Blues must be known as the Carlton Crew…
- The resurgent Fevola might land himself a new contract soon but unless it is more than one year, the Fev will walk! He should probably wait until he lasts a full season without a drink/outdoor wee/extra-marital affair before making any hefty demands…
…

Happier days for the Roos on the Gold Coast…
Gold Coast Stadium, um…the Gold Coast – 7:10pm (local): North Melbourne v West Coast (FOX)
- North Melbourne are hoping for a good crowd on the Gold Coast but the locals may not be too happy about that whole rejection thing. They might not take too kindly at being told they owe the Kangaroos either…
- That week off didn’t really work out too well for a few young Roos…so much for rest and relaxation!
- The Eagles, on the other hand, would have welcomed the break after the embarrassment of losing the Welcome Back Chris Judd game!
- No wonder John Worsfold is keen for a win…they have lost six straight games now and are in danger of setting a new club record if they don’t turn things around.
…

- So what’s the secret to Adelaide’s early-season success? It can’t be practising their half-time breaks, can it? Brett Burton seems to think so…
- Perhaps Nathan Bassett can move into recruitment when his playing days are over…he really wanted Austin Wonaeamirri at the Crows!
- Coach Dean Bailey finally has a win to his credit…it must be all that wonderful listening he does;
- The Demons think that the new Gold Coast franchise should be limited to signing uncontracted players that are over 25…and whose names are David Neitz or Adem Yze!
…

Nick Malceski passing a late fitness test
Telstra Stadium, Sydney – 2:10pm (local): Sydney v Essendon (SEVEN)
- Nick Malceski and his miracle knee are the biggest talking point of this game…will it stand up to the rigours of AFL footy?
- Adam Goodes has had quite an interesting week…apparently he is a racist! We think that the AFL historian who said this will now be history!
- Despite an ordinary start to the year, coach Matthew Knights is not reaching for the panic button…but maybe he should reach for the ‘will one of you blokes please play some defense’ button!
- The Bombers have still managed to sign up 40,000 members – geez, imagine what will happen when they are actually good…
…
Subiaco, Perth – 2:40pm (local): Fremantle v Western Bulldogs (FOX)

Mark Harvey running a ‘killer instinct’ training drill
- Fremantle lost the plot in Melbourne two weeks ago and Mark Harvey wants to see his side develop a killer instinct. He also wants a larger squad of players available…preferably good players with a killer instinct!
- Would Des Headland qualify as a good player with a killer instinct? No, we don’t think so either but it doesn’t matter because he won’t play for a while.
- After the bagging Freo and the coach have copped recently, the Dogs are rightfully wary of facing a fired up outfit on Sunday.
- The Doggies think they can mix it with the best. Well, the Dockers are not in that category so they don’t win, you wonder whether that whole top-four thing is really possible for them!
