Cheer up Jared Brennan…it’s not that bad. You only have one more game to play and then you can go completely nuts!!!
After looking headed for a grandstand finish to the home-and-away season, there will be no dramatic ending next weekend after results on Get Some AFL India round eliminated those hopeful clubs from breaking into the top eight. So now the Lions, Tigers and Blues can officially give up their finals dreams and start making plans for the post-season footy trip! The only real intrigue left in the final round is which team will be fortunate enough to finish in fourth spot and face the prospect of being crushed by Geelong in the first qualifying final!
And that match may well be a repeat performance of yesterday’s clash down at Geelong…which was won by the virtually unstoppable Cats. While Geelong were mighty impressive, North Melbourne put in a pretty good effort themselves and David Hale’s eight goals was one of the best individual efforts of the season. So if they do meet again in two week’s time, Hale just needs to kick another five or six and the Roos will be right in it…

Sam Power feels the full force of…Max Power!!!

FRIDAY NIGHT

Finally, after years of waiting, those brainy sub-editors finally get their ‘Hahn six-pack’ moment!!!
- The Western Bulldogs finally returned to the winners list and showed flashes of why they will finish top-four…but also demonstrated the deficiencies that will see them fall short in September. Which probably explains why Rocket Eade was so pissed off! The Bombers may have plenty of money but it will be of little comfort when their season ends next Sunday night…
…
SATURDAY

Wow…Fremantle are finally getting a little tired of Jeff Farmer’s shit!!! Shame it’s about four years too late…
- Richmond’s fight to finish anywhere but ninth was still alive after the win on Saturday…though struggling to beat Freo at home would not be cause for much optimism! Of course, they are no hope of finals now but at the time, it did allow Terry Wallace to play the waiting game. Oh, the waiting game sucks, let’s play Hungry Hungry Hippos!“
…

And from this point forward, Melbourne were pretty much out of the running!
- If Port Adelaide have lost the plot, we’d hate to think what you would say about Melbourne! The Power flog the Demons, prompting Dean Bailey to place the effort amongst their worst for the season…one of many, many, many contenders. Honestly, the League should be questioning young Warnock on why on earth he would want to go there!!!
…

Ed teases young Sydney supporters by allowing them a brief touch of the footy before snatching it away again. Classy…
- Ever tipped an upset and then watched in horror as that team gets smashed from the first bounce and the result is pretty well assured after ten minutes of play? Yep, that was our Saturday night! But it seems that both the Magpies and Swans will feature in September…not that Paul Roos seems that excited. And who could blame him after that slop on Saturday night?
…

Jono Brown wonders whether now is the best time to tell the boys about his ’super deal’…that’ll cheer them up!
- Up by 32 points in the final term, at home, finals place on the line…WTF happened? Carlton happened…and it’s all over for the Lions! And it seems the Blues knew that the Lions were good for a final quarter fadeout too!
…
SUNDAY

Nice banner for Robert Harvey…but maybe a touch big for him to keep at home…
- After going from premiership heavyweights to laughing stocks numerous times this season, the truth for St Kilda is probably somewhere in the middle now that they will definitely play finals after victory over the Crows. The Robert Harvey tribute made an old man very happy but, to be honest, it’s hard to see the Saints having much to cheer about in September. Adelaide…ditto!
…

The locals would have loved seeing one hundred goals for Buddy but had to settle with a farewell for Michael Braun!
- Hawthorn barely had to raise a sweat against the West Coast Eagles but the big interest was whether Lance Franklin could kick the six goals required for his century. Buddy only kicked four…and was typically wayward by also kicking five behinds. But it sets up a classic final round encounter with Carlton…Buddy needs two, Fev needs eight!

Is it just me, or have Richmond finished 9th more than any other team in AFL history? I am quite seriously considering checking that stat out. Not necessarily 9th, but one spot out of the finals.
